Said to be poison and outlawed in the U.S. in the early 1900's.
Advocat-
Reminds one of eggnog
this Dutch liqueur is made with Brandy, egg yolks and sugar.
Amaretto-
Italian liqueur with flavors of almonds.
Amaretto Disaronno-
Italian liqueur.
Best of the best!
Aged and not like some American knock-off's
that are just labeled as an Amaretto
without the history and flavours of this liqueur.
Amer Picone-
A French cordial, bitter, orange-flavored,
made from quinine and spices.
Anesone-
Clear Anise flavored liqueur
drier and higher in proof than Anisette.
Anisette-
Clear sweet liqueuer made with anise seeds,
tastes of licorice.
Apple Brandy-
(Apple Jack or Calvados)
Distilled from apple cider.
Calvados is produced only in Normandy, France.
Armangnac-
A fine French Brandy from Gascony,
a town south of Bourdeaux.
Like Cognac it is aged for up to 40 years in oak.
B & B-
Balance of Benedictine liqueur and fine French Brandy.
Bailey's Irish Cream-
Marriage of Irish Cream and Irish Whiskey.
Benedictine-
Sweet liqueur named for the Benedictine monks
who first began making it in the 16th century.
The recipe is a highly guarded secret
but it is known that it is flavored
with aromatics such as fruit peels and herbs.
Campari-
Actually an aperitif not a Brandy or Cognac,
but I added it here because it is fairly popular.
A bittersweet, astringent flavor from Italy.
Sweet Campari is also available.
Chambord-
A smooth liqueur with a hint of raspberry.
Chartreuse-
Originally made by Carthusian monks,
this is a very aromatic liqueur.
Available in the Green and Yellow varieties.
The yellow variety is colored with saffron
and is lighter and sweeter
than the Green variety which is
drier, sharper and more aromatic,
it also is higher in alcohol.
Cheri-Susse-
Swiss liqueur with a cherry-chocolate flavor.
Cointreau-
Fine French liqueur that's clear and colorless
with a hint of orange flavor.
Courvoisier-
A French Cognac that's fruity with a distinct oak aroma.
Creme-
A cordial with a very high sugar content.
Its cream-like
consistency gives it its prefix.
It comes in the following
combinations:
Creme de Cacao: Made from cacao and vanilla beans.
Creme de Cassis: Made from black currant.
Creme de Mint: Made from mint.
Creme de Yvette: Made from violets.
Curacao-
Orange flavored liqueur
made with the dried peels
of bitter oranges found on
the Caribbean island of Curacao.
Drambuie-
A golden scotch based liqueur
sweetened with heather honey
and flavored with herbs.
Dubonet-
An apertif wine made from aromatics.
It has a quinine taste
and is mostly made in France.
Frangelica-
Hazel-nut flavored liqueur
with essences of berries and flowers
from Italy.
Fruit Flavored Brandies-
Fruit flavored liqueurs produced from
blackberries, peaches, apricots,
cherries and ginger.
They are usually brandy-based
at 70 to 80 proof.
Galliano-
Anise-flavored,
golden yellow liqueur made in Italy
Glayva-
Scottish liqueur made with Scotch Whiskey,
honey and a well guarded herbal formula.
Goldschlager-
Cinnamon schnapps liqueur
with gold flakes from Switzerland
Goldwasser-
Full bodied liqueur flavored with
caraway seeds, orange peel and spices.
Translates from German as "gold water".
Thus named because of the gold leaf suspended in it.
Grand Marnier-
A dark golden Brandy based liqueur
flavored with orange peel
Harvey's Bristol Creme-
The orginal cream sherry-
a unique blend of wines
Herbsaint-
This anise flavored liqueur was developed
and is made primarily in New Orleans.
Jagermeister-
German liqueur that is a complex blend of 56 herbs,
fruits and spices best served icy cold
Kahlua-
A coffee flavored liqueur from Mexico
Kirsch ; Kirschwasser-
In German kirsch translates a "cherry"
and wasser translates as "water".
This clear Brandy is distilled
from cherry juice and pits.
Kummel-
Sweet colorless liqueur
flavored with caraway seed, cummin and fennel.
Mandarine Liqueur-
This liqueur is made with Cognac and Mandarian oranges,
and thus has an orange flavor.
Maraschino Liqueur-
Italian liqueur made from wild maraschino cherries
and their pits grown in the area of Trieste
has a bitter-sweet cherry flavor.
Martel-
This Cognacs recipe is a highly guarded secret,
produced exclusively in the Cognac region of France.
Metaxa-
Sweet, dark Greek Brandy.
Midori-
Japanese liqueur flavored with honey-dew melon.
Ouzo-
From Greece,
ansie flavored liqueur
that is distilled from 7 carefully selected herbs.
Pernod-
Yellow licorice flavored liqueur
similar to Absinthe.
Remy Martin-
Fine champagne cognac
with hints of vanilla and oak.
Smooth and complex yet balanced.
Sabra-
Chocolate-Orange flavored liqueur
made in Israel.
Sambuca-
Anise flavored not-so-sweet Italian liqueur
usually served with 2 or 3 coffee beans
floating on top.
Schnapps-
Again, this doesn't really belong on this page
but it's so popular especially the
peppermint and cinnamon varieties
that I thought I would add it.
It is distilled from grains or potatoes
often served as "shooters".

Golden colored Italian liqueur
made with herbs and flowers.
Tia Maria-
Rum and coffee flavor this is an
excellent dark Jamaican liqueur.
Triple Sec-
A cordial similar to Curacao
but less sweet and colorless.
Vermouth-
Once again I stray,
this is actually a fortified wine
and is served as an aperitif.
It is also an ingredient in
Martini's and Manhattans
as well as many other cocktails
so I am mentioning it here.
Vermouth from the German "wermut" ( wormswood ),
which before it was declared poisonous
was once the main flavoring ingredient,
is now distilled from herbs and spices.
Comes in two varieties the White which is dry
( Martini's )and Sweet ( Manhattan's )
which is colored with caramel.
