Easy drinking, medium dry white known for Vouvray in France.
Johannisberg Riesling
The principal grape of Germany with good fruit flavors and a floral bouquet.
Gewurztraminer
Spicy and perfumed and usually dry. Grown in Alsace and California, where it is sometimes made into a dessert wine.
Syrah
Famous in the Rhône area of France. Deep color with berry flavors and rich structure. Known as Shiraz in Australia.
Petite Sirah
No relation to the above, actually known as Durif in France. Rich and robust with strong flavors.
Viognier
Soft flavors accented with peach and apricot. An aroma of flowers. Grown in Southern France, Rhône and California.
Mourvedre
Another Rhône variety with deep color and full body. Known as Mataro in California.
Semillon
Grown in Sauternes and Barsac (Bordeaux) where it makes a sweet dessert wine. In Australia, Washington and California it is used for blending. On its own it is crisp, fresh and acidic.
