This country has been making wine for many years but exports were slow until the political situation was resolved a few years ago.
The weather and terrain are ideally suited for producing fine wines of Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc.
A native grape called Pinotage, a cross of Pinot Noir and Cinsault, is widely planted and produces very good wines.
